In mid-October, scientists from the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) and Indonesian and international universities traveled to the peat and forest fires in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia, as part of a training workshop.

There, they used specialized equipment to measure the physical impact of the fires and the smoke. What they found shocked them – but the data they gather can be used for understanding the extent of the problem, and for supporting efforts to find solutions.
