Ketika para pria di sebuah desa menyadari ketimpangan mencolok dalam beban kerja harian antara mereka dan para perempuan, keterkejutan mereka memicu perubahan sikap, menyalakan harapan untuk transformasi sosial yang lebih luas di masyarakat.<\/p>\n

Latihan analisis tugas harian mengungkapkan bahwa para pria rata-rata menghabiskan sekitar lima jam sehari bekerja di ladang, sementara para perempuan bekerja lebih dari dua kali lipat waktu tersebut. Mereka menyiapkan makanan, mengumpulkan kayu bakar dan air, merawat anak-anak, mencuci, serta mengurus tanaman. \u201cKesadaran ini membuka mata para pria akan pentingnya memberikan kesempatan yang setara bagi perempuan,\u201d ungkap Linda Yuliani, seorang ilmuwan di Center for International Forestry Research and World Agroforestry (CIFOR-ICRAF).<\/a><\/p>\n

Linda memaparkan temuan ini dalam lokakarya bertajuk \u201cGender, Equity and Social Inclusion (GESI) in Forestry\/Agroforestry Projects: Workshopping Tools for Change,\u201d yang merupakan sesi tambahan pada pertemuan tahunan Forests & Livelihoods Assessment, Research, and Engagement (FLARE)<\/a> di Roma pada Oktober 2024.<\/p>\n

Selama lokakarya, para peneliti dan praktisi saling bertukar wawasan tentang penerapan pendekatan yang responsif dan transformatif terhadap gender dalam sistem hutan dan agroforestri. Para peserta lokakarya membagikan pengalaman serta metodologi yang diterapkan dalam berbagai proyek terkait di CIFOR-ICRAF, termasuk penelitian lapangan dari proyek Adaptive Collaborative Management (ACM) di Sumatra. Linda menekankan bahwa latihan praktis seperti ini sangat berharga dalam meningkatkan kesadaran dan mengubah persepsi terkait peran gender.<\/p>\n

Peran konteks dalam transformasi gender<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cMemberdayakan perempuan harus melibatkan pemberian kebebasan kepada mereka untuk memilih, dan bertindak dengan cara yang tidak memberatkan mereka,\u201d kata Linda, yang juga merupakan anggota inisiatif Collaborating to Operationalise Landscape Approaches for Nature, Development, and Sustainability (COLANDS<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Emily Gallagher, peneliti CIFOR-ICRAF yang mengkhususkan diri dalam rantai nilai dan investasi berkelanjutan, memperkuat perspektif ini. \u201cKesadaran akan peran dan tanggung jawab yang ada untuk pria dan perempuan dalam konteks tertentu adalah langkah pertama dalam mentransformasi peran gender,\u201d kata Emily.<\/p>\n

\u201cMemahami bagaimana gender dan inklusi berinteraksi dengan faktor lain-lain, mulai dari generasi hingga agama, etnisitas, dan kelas, sangat penting untuk memperluas tindakan positif,\u201d tambah Emily. \u201cItulah yang, pada gilirannya, diperlukan untuk bergerak dari perubahan individu ke perubahan sistemik dan dari norma informal ke langkah formal, termasuk komposisi badan pengambil keputusan dan pembentukan undang-undang<\/p>\n

\u201cKesetaraan akses bagi perempuan dan pria ke arena pengambilan keputusan formal terkait hak atas tanah dan sumber daya individu dan komunitas sangat penting, begitu juga dengan jaminan hak atas tanah yang memastikan hak waris perempuan,\u201d kata Emily selama lokakarya yang dihadiri lebih dari 30 peserta.<\/p>\n

Emily juga mempresentasikan proyek Prioritizing Options for Women\u2019s Empowerment and Resilience (POWER)<\/a> dalam rantai nilai pohon buah di Malawi, yang memicu diskusi tentang alat untuk memberdayakan perempuan dan laki-laki. \u201cKeluarga berpartisipasi dalam penelitian hanya setelah setuju untuk terlibat,\u201d jelas Emily sebagai tanggapan atas pertanyaan mengenai keterlibatan masyarakat.<\/p>\n

Keterlibatan masyarakat juga memainkan peran penting dalam Proyek Kelapa Sawit Nasional Uganda (NOPP)<\/a>. \u201cKomunitas di sekitar Danau Victoria menominasikan rumah tangga untuk berpartisipasi dalam upaya meningkatkan pembangunan pedesaan dan mengurangi kemiskinan melalui produksi kelapa sawit,\u201d kata Emily. \u201cSeiring waktu, NOPP secara bertahap mengadaptasi pendekatannya untuk memasukkan kurikulum Gender Action and Learning System (GALS)<\/a> untuk mendukung rumah tangga dan komunitas dalam menetapkan tujuan ekonomi, menstabilkan keluarga yang berisiko, dan khususnya, melibatkan laki-laki sebagai sekutu untuk pemberdayaan ekonomi perempuan,\u201d kata Emily.<\/p>\n

Di India, \u201cGender Barrier and Opportunity Mapping Tool<\/a> memainkan peran penting dalam membantu komunitas dan pemangku kepentingan lainnya di bentang alam untuk mengidentifikasi dan menangani peluang serta kendala terkait gender dan keadilan sosial, sehingga hal ini dapat diatasi,\u201d kata Babita Bohra, koordinator GESI untuk CIFOR-ICRAF India, yang menggambarkan bagaimana alat ini digunakan sebagai bagian dari inisiatif lima tahun Trees Outside Forests in India (TOFI)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Proyek bersama yang dilaksanakan oleh United States Agency for International Development (USAID) dan Kementerian Lingkungan Hidup, Kehutanan, dan Perubahan Iklim India (MoEFCC), TOFI bertujuan untuk memperluas tutupan pohon di sekitar 2,8 juta hektar lahan non-hutan. Inisiatif ini diharapkan dapat menyerap sekitar 420 juta ton setara karbon dioksida sambil meningkatkan mata pencaharian 13,1 juta orang. Tujuan ambisius ini akan dicapai melalui inisiatif di lapangan, kemitraan multi-pemangku kepentingan, pembangunan kapasitas, dan keterlibatan kebijakan yang aktif.<\/p>\n

\u201cKonteks spesifik setiap bentang alam memengaruhi apakah latihan dilakukan dengan kelompok satu jenis kelamin atau kelompok campuran,\u201d jelas Bohra sebagai tanggapan atas pertanyaan dalam lokakarya. Dia menekankan bahwa pendekatan GESI memastikan inklusi yang bermakna bagi perempuan, kelompok sosial yang kurang terwakili, dan individu dengan kebutuhan khusus dalam kegiatan TOFI.<\/p>\n

Fasilitator lokakarya James Reed, pemimpin tim COLANDS dan ilmuwan senior CIFOR-ICRAF, memimpin latihan yang menggugah pemikiran tentang bagaimana bahasa dapat memperkuat stereotip. Dia menyoroti penelitian yang melibatkan anak-anak yang bermain dengan mainan Lego, di mana kreasi anak laki-laki digambarkan sebagai \u201ckeren\u201d, \u201cinovatif\u201d, atau \u201ccerdas\u201d, sementara usaha anak perempuan diberi label \u201cimut\u201d atau \u201ccantik.\u201d<\/p>\n

Peserta merefleksikan bagaimana dinamika kekuasaan sosial, seperti siapa yang diizinkan tertawa lepas atau mengekspresikan diri dalam kelompok, seringkali meminggirkan perempuan dan anak perempuan. Mereka sepakat akan perlunya memperluas alat dan metode untuk penelitian Kesetaraan Gender dan Inklusi Sosial guna mengatasi ketidaksetaraan tersebut secara efektif.<\/p>\n
