Meskipun jumlah ini mungkin terlihat sedikit untuk periode satu setengah dekade pelaksanaan REDD+, evaluasi dampak kuantitatif dari inisiatif ini masih tertinggal, seperti yang terjadi di banyak bidang lingkungan lainnya. Dalam hal ukuran hutan, tindakan REDD+ paling efektif di Andes, Indonesia, dan Afrika Timur, sementara penelitian mengenai dampak REDD+ cenderung terlalu terfokus pada Amerika Latin.<\/p>\n<p>Secara keseluruhan, para peneliti menemukan bahwa dampak REDD+ terhadap konservasi hutan cukup signifikan secara statistik, baik untuk program swasta (LSM atau komersial) maupun program publik\u2014meskipun terdapat variasi yang cukup besar. Terutama, program-program yang dijalankan oleh LSM dengan dasar ilmiah yang kuat sering kali menerapkan desain REDD+ yang mutakhir dan menghasilkan hasil yang sangat baik. Hal ini membantu mereka menunjukkan bahwa intervensi REDD+ yang dirancang dengan baik dapat berhasil di konteks hutan tropis.<\/p>\n<p>Sebaliknya, proyek-proyek yang berada di daerah terpencil\u2014yang sulit diakses oleh jalan dan pasar\u2014cenderung menghadapi tekanan deforestasi yang rendah pada awalnya. Akibatnya, dampak REDD+ yang dievaluasi di kawasan ini lebih kecil, karena sulit untuk menghasilkan perbedaan positif tanpa adanya ancaman deforestasi yang signifikan. Selain itu, efektivitas inisiatif REDD+ bisa ditingkatkan dengan memusatkan perhatian pada sub-wilayah, komunitas, atau pemilik lahan yang strategis, memberikan mereka akses prioritas ke program. Langkah ini berpotensi memperkuat dampak intervensi terhadap konservasi hutan.<\/p>\n<p>Namun, beberapa hasil REDD+ yang tidak optimal tidak hanya disebabkan oleh lokasi atau desain yang kurang memadai. Banyak proyek REDD+ menghadapi aliran dana yang tidak stabil dari pasar karbon yang fluktuatif. Ketidakpastian finansial ini membuat inisiatif tersebut enggan untuk berkomitmen jangka panjang dengan pemilik lahan dan komunitas lokal. Sebagai hasilnya, banyak proyek menjadi sementara atau hanya mencoba berbagai tindakan tanpa strategi jangka panjang yang jelas. Jika para pelaksana di berbagai tingkatan dapat mengambil pelajaran yang tepat dari pengalaman REDD+ generasi pertama\u2014termasuk upaya yang lebih terfokus di area kritis, perbaikan kontrak, strategi jangka panjang yang lebih jelas, dan keandalan pasar yang lebih baik\u2014intervensi di masa depan berpotensi mencapai dampak yang lebih tinggi.<\/p>\n<p>Dua dekade terakhir penerapan REDD+ memberikan pengalaman belajar yang kompleks namun berharga. Meskipun tidak menghasilkan hasil yang signifikan seperti yang diharapkan sebelumnya, REDD+ telah memberikan kontribusi nyata terhadap konservasi hutan, terutama di daerah di mana proyek-proyek yang berbasis ilmiah dan dirancang dengan baik dilaksanakan.
