Ingin tahu bagaimana rasanya membawa seorang bayi ke pelosok daerah sembari melakukan penelitian? Bagaimana seorang ilmuwan perempuan berhasil di dalam masyarakat yang didominasi oleh laki-laki? Bagaimana seorang perempuan tetap aman selama bekerja di lapangan? Dalam rangkaian lima artikel untuk Hari Perempuan Internasional pada 8 Maret 2024, lima ilmuwan perempuan yang bekerja dalam inisiatif COLANDS \u2013 Berkolaborasi untuk Mengoperasionalkan Pendekatan Bentang Alam untuk Pembangunan dan Keberlanjutan \u2013 menjawab pertanyaan-pertanyaan tentang profesi sebagai ilmuwan dan akademisi. <\/em><\/p>\n

Augusta M. Anandi adalah kandidat PhD di University of Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research<\/em> (AISSR). Area penelitiannya berada di Indonesia, dengan fokus pada pengaturan adat, platform multi-pemangku kepentingan, dan pendekatan lanskap terpadu. Augusta, yang tinggal di Indonesia, meraih gelar Master di bidang kebijakan dan manajemen lingkungan dari University of Adelaide<\/em>, Australia.<\/p>\n

\u201cMembawa bayi sembari bekerja memiliki tantangan tersendiri ketika karir Anda melibatkan penelitian di daerah terpencil di Indonesia dan anak Anda berusia kurang dari satu tahun. Namun, itulah yang saya lakukan pada penelitian lapangan PhD saya di sub-DAS Labian-Leboyan bersama putri dan suami saya. Hal ini terbukti menjadi ujian dalam mengatasi tuntutan yang bersaing, namun juga bermanfaat karena berbagai alasan.<\/p>\n

Putri saya, Kalila \u2013 yang berusia 10 bulan ketika saya bekerja di lapangan pada Februari 2022 \u2013 dengan cepat dikenal dengan julukan ramah Si Kiting, karena rambutnya yang hitam ikal dan lebat. Saya menemukan Kalila adalah duta yang sangat baik untuk pekerjaan saya. Orang-orang yang mungkin kaku atau skeptis terhadap saya akan bersikap ramah dan tanggap ketika melihat Kalila. Keluarga saya bergabung dengan saya saat melakukan wawancara dengan penduduk setempat di salah satu bilik rumah panjang desa. Setiap orang datang menemui Kalila dan membuat proses wawancara menjadi lebih mudah.<\/p>\n

Melalui berbagai pengalaman di lapangan, saya belajar bahwa meskipun membawa keluarga itu sulit, pekerjaan saya juga bermanfaat karena saya bisa lebih fokus dan merasa aman mengetahui bayi saya ada di dekat saya; dan orang-orang menghargai saat dia ada di sana. Saya mempunyai contoh positif beberapa tahun sebelumnya ketika seorang kolega melanjutkan penelitiannya di Kalimantan saat sedang hamil; ilmuwan tersebut kembali ke lapangan setahun kemudian bersama putranya yang berusia satu tahun.<\/p>\n

Saya menyemangati perempuan lainnya: Jika Anda ingin melanjutkan pendidikan ke tingkat yang lebih tinggi dan melakukan kerja lapangan, keluarga bukanlah alasan untuk berhenti. Anak-anak akan bangga dengan ibu mereka yang bekerja dan melakukan penelitian.\u201d<\/p>\n
