Cara ini dilakukan oleh pelaku usaha besar dan kecil. Dampak merugikan akibat praktik ini mendapat perhatian internasional karena memicu krisis lingkungan dan kesehatan regional pada 2014-2015.<\/p>\n<p>Pembakaran, khususnya pada lahan dan hutan gambut yang telah dikeringkan, merupakan sumber utama emisi gas rumah kaca, dan turut menyebabkan perubahan iklim global. Asap akibat kebakaran menghentikan sejenak aktivitas hidup keseharian, ditutupnya sekolah dan kantor, hingga menyebabkan kematian. Kerusakan pada keragaman hayati hutan gambut dan lahan gambut kaya karbon, dalam beberapa kasus tidak bisa dipulihkan.<\/p>\n<p>Seiring pertumbuhan ekonomi Indonesia, dan pesatnya pertumbuhan sektor sawit, bubur kayu dan kertas, kemampuan mengendalikan kebakaran dan asap makin dibutuhkan. Hukum dan regulasi yang lebih kuat untuk melarang pembakaran perkebunan berdampak besar dalam menghentikan praktik tersebut.<\/p>\n<p>Beberapa pelaku usaha turut bertanggung jawab atas dampak yang dibuat, baik secara mandiri atau akibat tekanan konsumen, seperti ikrar kepatuhan pada standar keberlanjutan internasional, antara lain Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). Sebagian lain merangkul masyarakat untuk bekerja sama mengubah praktik mereka di dalam maupun di luar wilayah konsesi.<\/p>\n<p>Perwakilan dari sektor swasta bersama tokoh masyarakat, aparat penegak hukum, peneliti dan berbagai pihak lain membahas pencegahan kebakaran dan asap pada <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cifor.org\/event\/national-policy-dialoguelaws-and-best-practices-for-reducing-fire-and-haze\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">dialog kebijakan nasional<\/a> di Pekanbaru bulan lalu.
