Namun banyak areanya yang masih kurang terpetakan. Luas, kondisi, dan karakter musimannya sering kali sulit dilacak, sehingga negara-negara menemui keterbatasan informasi saat merencanakan adaptasi dan mitigasi iklim terkait area tersebut. Seiring dengan upaya sejumlah pemerintah mempersiapkan komitmen baru dalam COP30, akses terhadap data spasial yang andal menjadi kian penting. Pertama kali dikembangkan dan diterbitkan oleh <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.cifor.org\/global-wetlands\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Center for International Forestry Research and World Agroforestry (CIFOR-ICRAF)<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/map.unbiodiversitylab.org\/earth?basemap=grayscale&amp;coordinates=1.0928172,-59.4776703,2.0&amp;layers=UNBL.layer.global-wetlands-tropical-and-subtropical-wetlands-distribution_100\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">kumpulan data Lahan Basah Dunia<\/a> kini tersedia di UN Biodiversity Lab (UNBL), memberikan para peneliti, perencana, dan pembuat kebijakan pandangan yang lebih jelas tentang lokasi ekosistem ini dan bagaimana fungsinya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UN Biodiversity Lab \u2014 sebuah platform data spasial sumber terbuka dan gratis yang dibuat oleh beberapa badan PBB, termasuk Secretariat of the UN Biodiversity Convention, UNDP, dan UNEP \u2014 kini telah menyediakan kumpulan data tersebut bagi para pengguna di seluruh dunia. Melalui platform ini, siapa pun bisa memvisualisasikan dan mengunduh informasi lahan basah pada skala nasional dan subnasional. Pekerjaan lapangan, pemodelan, pemetaan, dan pengembangan basis data tersebut selama bertahun-tahun menghasilkan sebuah artikel ilmiah yang terbit di jurnal terkemuka dan banyak dikutip serta basis data peta interaktif yang banyak digunakan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSumber data ini banyak digunakan, terutama ketika pengunjung ingin menemukan lahan basah terdegradasi untuk restorasi dan lahan basah utuh untuk konservasi dalam konteks mitigasi dan adaptasi perubahan iklim,\u201d kata Daniel Murdiyarso, ilmuwan utama CIFOR-ICRAF. Sebuah laporan baru dari Sekretariat Konvensi Ramsar, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.global-wetland-outlook.ramsar.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><em>Global Wetland Outlook 2025: Valuing, conserving, restore and financing wetlands (GWO 2025)<\/em><\/a>, memperkirakan bahwa setidaknya 411 juta hektare lahan basah dunia telah hilang sejak tahun 1970. Laporan tersebut juga memperingatkan bahwa tanpa tindakan yang mendesak, seperlima lahan basah dunia yang tersisa bisa hilang pada tahun 2050, yang mengakibatkan hilangnya manfaat yang mendukung manusia, perekonomian, dan alam senilai sekitar 39 triliun dolar AS atau sekitar Rp652 kuadraliun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Misalnya, di Indonesia, lahan gambut sering dikeringkan dan dibuka untuk pertanian, terutama perkebunan kelapa sawit.
