Setelah memasangkan semua peralatan tadi, ia mulai menjelajah ke dalam tanah gambut, yang menyimpan sebagian dari tampungan karbon terbesar di dunia.<\/p>\n<p>Sebastian Persch, seorang mahasiswa tingkat doktoral dan peneliti pada Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR), sebulan sekali menempuh perjalanan ke Taman Nasional  Berbak di Sumatra untuk mengukur biomassa di atas permukaan tanah dan di bawah permukaan tanah \u2013 pepohonan hidup dan mati, akar dan vegetasi yang berkontribusi terhadap stok karbon hutan.<\/p>\n<p>Persch sedang berusaha untuk mengamati dengan kameranya, bagaimana perakaran vegetasi hutan yang sangat kecil hidup, tumbuh dan mati. Ia dapat menggunakan informasi ini untuk menghitung jumlah input karbon ke dalam tanah ketika perakaran itu mati.<\/p>\n<p>Penelitian ini semuanya merupakan bagian dari pekerjaan CIFOR dalam .
