{"id":75504,"date":"2021-11-30T21:31:08","date_gmt":"2021-11-30T14:31:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.forestsnews.org\/?p=75504"},"modified":"2021-12-21T16:49:46","modified_gmt":"2021-12-21T09:49:46","slug":"la-recherche-plaide-en-faveur-dune-agriculture-intelligente-face-au-climat-pour-freiner-la-deforestation-en-rdc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.forestsnews.org\/fr\/75504\/la-recherche-plaide-en-faveur-dune-agriculture-intelligente-face-au-climat-pour-freiner-la-deforestation-en-rdc","title":{"rendered":"La recherche plaide en faveur d\u2019une agriculture intelligente face au climat pour freiner la d\u00e9forestation en RDC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Les agriculteurs de la R\u00e9publique d\u00e9mocratique du Congo (RDC) dont les rendements baissent en raison des effets n\u00e9fastes du changement climatique en viennent \u00e0 d\u00e9fricher la for\u00eat pour augmenter leurs surfaces de production, mais lib\u00e8rent de ce fait du carbone stock\u00e9 qui contribue \u00e0 l&#8217;emballement du r\u00e9chauffement climatique.<\/p>\n<p>Les fermiers congolais de Yangambi confront\u00e9s au changement climatique ne subissent pas uniquement des baisses de rendement, ils ont aussi observ\u00e9 une augmentation des nuisibles sur leurs cultures et l&rsquo;arriv\u00e9e de nouvelles esp\u00e8ces d&rsquo;adventices ; c\u2019est ce que r\u00e9v\u00e8le une nouvelle <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cifor.org\/knowledge\/publication\/8140\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">\u00e9tude<\/a> r\u00e9alis\u00e9e par une \u00e9quipe scientifique du <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cifor.org\/knowledge\/publication\/8140\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Centre de recherche foresti\u00e8re internationale<\/a> (CIFOR) et du Centre International pour la Recherche en Agroforesterie (ICRAF).<\/p>\n<p>La meilleure d\u00e9fense est de d\u00e9ployer les techniques de l\u2019agriculture intelligente face au climat (AIC) dont le potentiel \u00e0 la fois d\u2019att\u00e9nuation et d&rsquo;adaptation peut contribuer d&rsquo;une part \u00e0 r\u00e9duire les \u00e9missions des gaz \u00e0 effet de serre (GES) \u00e0 l\u2019origine du r\u00e9chauffement de la plan\u00e8te, et d&rsquo;autre part \u00e0 augmenter les productions agricoles pour lutter contre l\u2019ins\u00e9curit\u00e9 alimentaire, tout en pr\u00e9servant la riche biodiversit\u00e9 des for\u00eats de la r\u00e9gion de Yangambi, explique Denis Sonwa, scientifique senior.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab Concernant les pertes de rendements, la plupart des agriculteurs n&rsquo;appliquent pas les techniques r\u00e9silientes qui favorisent l&rsquo;adaptation \u00bb, ajoute-t-il. \u00ab Si certains pratiquent la rotation des cultures, la jach\u00e8re ou replantent le m\u00eame type de semences, d\u2019autres ouvrent de nouveaux espaces de culture ; une menace de d\u00e9forestation suppl\u00e9mentaire pour la for\u00eat qui participe \u00e0 l&rsquo;acc\u00e9l\u00e9ration du changement climatique en cours. \u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Les agriculteurs dont les capacit\u00e9s d&rsquo;adaptation sont les plus limit\u00e9es et qui d\u00e9pendent des pr\u00e9cipitations pour irriguer leurs cultures sont les plus expos\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p>Les effets d\u00e9favorables du d\u00e9r\u00e8glement climatique sont multiples. Parmi les personnes interrog\u00e9es par les scientifiques du CIFOR-ICRAF, 54,8 pour cent lui attribuent la baisse de leurs rendements, et 43,6 pour cent ont remarqu\u00e9 l\u2019\u00e9mergence de nouveaux nuisibles.<\/p>\n\n<p>D\u2019apr\u00e8s les donn\u00e9es rassembl\u00e9es par les scientifiques, parmi lesquels Lisette Mangaza de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Goma en RDC, pr\u00e8s de 70 pour cent des agriculteurs ont observ\u00e9 l\u2019arriv\u00e9e de nouvelles esp\u00e8ces d&rsquo;adventices, et 22,4 pour cent ont signal\u00e9 un \u00e9puisement des cultures de riz, de ma\u00efs et de ni\u00e9b\u00e9, qui selon eux sont plus affect\u00e9es par l\u2019augmentation des temp\u00e9ratures et la chute des pr\u00e9cipitations, tandis que le manioc et les arachides souffrent d\u2019un exc\u00e8s de pluie.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab Pr\u00e8s de 90 pour cent des agriculteurs ont indiqu\u00e9 ne pas employer les techniques d&rsquo;adaptation. Par ailleurs, une large part des r\u00e9pondants ne connaissaient pas les causes de ce d\u00e9r\u00e8glement du climat (d\u00e9forestation, agriculture sur br\u00fblis et croissance d\u00e9mographique), l&rsquo;attribuant pour certains \u00e0 une manifestation divine : la volont\u00e9 ou un ch\u00e2timent de Dieu \u00bb, commente L. Mangaza.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019\u00e9quipe des scientifiques, \u00e9galement rattach\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Kisangani en RDC, s\u2019est aussi rendu compte que certaines des actions mises en place par les agriculteurs contre les impacts n\u00e9gatifs du changement climatique s&rsquo;av\u00e9raient parfois pires, et qu\u2019elles d\u00e9multipliaient et aggravaient ses effets.<\/p>\n<p>Une AIC bien structur\u00e9e permettrait de saisir cette opportunit\u00e9 d\u2019utiliser l&rsquo;agriculture comme un levier contre la d\u00e9forestation qui \u00e0 la fois ferait baisser son empreinte carbone et favoriserait un syst\u00e8me de culture r\u00e9silient et plus productif, affirment les scientifiques.<\/p>\n<p>Selon le Groupe d&rsquo;experts intergouvernemental sur l&rsquo;\u00e9volution du climat (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ipcc.ch\/srccl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">GIEC<\/a>), le changement climatique a une incidence n\u00e9gative sur la production agricole, et l\u2019Afrique est le continent le plus vuln\u00e9rable en raison de sa forte d\u00e9pendance \u00e0 l&rsquo;agriculture pluviale, sa pauvret\u00e9 g\u00e9n\u00e9ralis\u00e9e, ses faibles capacit\u00e9s d&rsquo;adaptation et son manque d\u2019investissements dans les syst\u00e8mes d\u2019att\u00e9nuation et de r\u00e9silience.<\/p>\n<p>Malgr\u00e9 les efforts continus des agriculteurs pour s&rsquo;adapter aux al\u00e9as du climat au fil des ans, ils demeurent insuffisants face au rythme et \u00e0 l\u2019intensit\u00e9 du d\u00e9r\u00e8glement climatique.<\/p>\n<p>En RDC, o\u00f9 l\u2019\u00e9tude s\u2019est d\u00e9roul\u00e9e, 70 pour cent des populations habitent en zones rurales et sont tributaires de l&rsquo;agriculture pluviale et sur br\u00fblis (cette derni\u00e8re \u00e9tant une cause directe de d\u00e9forestation) pour leur subsistance, ce qui ajoute \u00e0 leur vuln\u00e9rabilit\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Dans le paysage de Yangambi, l&rsquo;agriculture repr\u00e9sente le premier secteur d\u2019activit\u00e9 et constitue entre 70 et 85 pour cent des revenus des trois quarts des m\u00e9nages. La qu\u00eate de terres fertiles pousse la population \u00e0 d\u00e9fricher toujours plus d\u2019espaces bois\u00e9s pour r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 leurs besoins toujours grandissants et mod\u00e9rer la pression d\u00e9mographique plus forte.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019enqu\u00eate men\u00e9e dans le cadre de cette \u00e9tude, financ\u00e9e par l\u2019Union europ\u00e9enne et le CIFOR-ICRAF, r\u00e9v\u00e8le qu\u2019une grande majorit\u00e9 des 250 agriculteurs interrog\u00e9s (98 pour cent) ressentent d\u00e9j\u00e0 les effets du d\u00e9r\u00e8glement climatique, notamment au niveau des temp\u00e9ratures, des pr\u00e9cipitations et des cycles m\u00e9t\u00e9orologiques.<\/p>\n<p>Pour relever les d\u00e9fis de l&rsquo;agriculture dans ce contexte, l\u2019organisation des Nations unies pour l\u2019alimentation et l\u2019agriculture (FAO) recommande l\u2019AIC, une approche qui s\u2019articule autour de trois piliers : la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 alimentaire, l&rsquo;adaptation et l&rsquo;att\u00e9nuation.<\/p>\n<p>Ces techniques, selon l\u2019organisation, augmentent la productivit\u00e9 et la r\u00e9silience de fa\u00e7on durable, r\u00e9duisent l\u2019intensit\u00e9 des \u00e9missions de GES, ralentissent la d\u00e9forestation et am\u00e9liorent la sant\u00e9 des sols, des paysages et des for\u00eats.<\/p>\n\n<p>L\u2019AIC n\u2019est pas une pratique prescrite, ni une technologie sp\u00e9cifique \u00e0 valeur universelle, mais plut\u00f4t une pratique qui n\u00e9cessite l\u2019adoption d\u2019une approche int\u00e9gr\u00e9e tenant compte des conditions locales particuli\u00e8res d\u2019un site, notamment des \u00e9valuations caract\u00e9ristiques ax\u00e9es sur les conditions sociales, \u00e9conomiques et environnementales, qui d\u00e9termineront les pratiques et technologies agricoles appropri\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<p>Le rapport indique que l\u2019objectif de cette \u00e9tude \u00e9tait d\u2019\u00e9tablir un cadre en vue de d\u00e9ployer l\u2019AIC dans le paysage de Yangambi, par l\u2019inventaire des pratiques agricoles existantes et de leurs limites en termes de rendements, par l\u2019\u00e9valuation de la vuln\u00e9rabilit\u00e9 face au changement climatique et par la s\u00e9lection de pistes d&rsquo;adaptation.<\/p>\n<p>Les scientifiques qui se sont focalis\u00e9s sur les pistes d&rsquo;am\u00e9lioration des performances des syst\u00e8mes agricoles du point de vue de l\u2019att\u00e9nuation face au d\u00e9r\u00e8glement climatique ont r\u00e9clam\u00e9 des aides pour d\u00e9ployer \u00e0 plus grande \u00e9chelle les approches d\u2019AIC d\u00e9j\u00e0 en place dans la r\u00e9gion afin de freiner les cons\u00e9quences d\u00e9l\u00e9t\u00e8res du changement climatique.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab \u00c0 ce jour, les politiques et les investissements mis en place pour populariser les pratiques d\u2019AIC aupr\u00e8s des agriculteurs du paysage de Yangambi restent insuffisants, bien qu\u2019elles soient tout \u00e0 fait accessibles et r\u00e9alisables \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelon local \u00bb, indique D. Sonwa, qui ajoute que l&rsquo;adaptation du calendrier des plantations et des semis agricoles, d&rsquo;autres techniques d&rsquo;agroforesterie, l&rsquo;utilisation de vari\u00e9t\u00e9s cultiv\u00e9es am\u00e9lior\u00e9es et plus tol\u00e9rantes, la rotation des cultures, tout cela est efficace pour enrayer les redoutables effets du changement climatique.<\/p>\n<p>Le d\u00e9veloppement des plaines, l&rsquo;utilisation d&rsquo;engrais et de pesticides biologiques, sont aussi des approches alternatives de l\u2019AIC, d&rsquo;apr\u00e8s l&rsquo;\u00e9tude men\u00e9e par le CIFOR dans le cadre du projet d\u2019\u00e9tude comparative mondiale pour la r\u00e9alisation de REDD1 (GCS-REDD1), financ\u00e9 par l\u2019Organisme norv\u00e9gien pour le d\u00e9veloppement international (NORAD).<\/p>\n<p><em>Les recherches dans d\u2019autres r\u00e9gions conduites sur le m\u00eame th\u00e8me que celle de la <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cifor.org\/knowledge\/publication\/7637\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><em>Province de Tshopo<\/em><\/a><em> en RDC confirment comment l\u2019<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cifor.org\/knowledge\/publication\/6744\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><em>innovation en agriculture<\/em><\/a><em> a permis de soulager la pression sur les for\u00eats.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Les agriculteurs de la R\u00e9publique d\u00e9mocratique du Congo (RDC) dont les rendements baissent en raison des effets n\u00e9fastes du changement climatique en viennent \u00e0 d\u00e9fricher la for\u00eat pour augmenter leurs surfaces de production, mais lib\u00e8rent de ce fait du carbone stock\u00e9 qui contribue \u00e0 l&#8217;emballement du r\u00e9chauffement climatique.
