Tout le monde semble d&rsquo;accord sur ce point, et beaucoup se sont demand\u00e9s au cours des derniers mois et dans diff\u00e9rents m\u00e9dias: pourquoi, si ceci est un probl\u00e8me r\u00e9current, n&rsquo;a-t-il pas \u00e9t\u00e9 trait\u00e9 de fa\u00e7on plus d\u00e9cisive?<\/p>\n<p>Ou plut\u00f4t, il semble que beaucoup aient pos\u00e9 cette question pendant que la fum\u00e9e \u00e9tait encore en l&rsquo;air, mais cet int\u00e9r\u00eat est lourdement retomb\u00e9 avec la fum\u00e9e. Pour illustrer l&rsquo;attention des m\u00e9dias grand public sur les incendies r\u00e9cents \u00e0 Sumatra, nous avons compar\u00e9 dans le temps le nombre de points chauds avec le nombre d&rsquo;\u00e9l\u00e9ments d&rsquo;information correspondants. Les <a href=\"https:\/\/earthdata.nasa.gov\/data\/near-real-time-data\/firms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">points chauds d\u00e9tect\u00e9s par satellites<\/a>* au-dessus de Sumatra semblent fournir une <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forestsnews.org\/17493\/new-data-on-indonesia-fires-generate-important-insights\">repr\u00e9sentation pr\u00e9cise des incendies sur le terrain<\/a>*. Nous avons effectu\u00e9 une recherche sur Google pour trouver, \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9chelle mondiale, des articles de presse sur le feu et la fum\u00e9e \u00e0 Sumatra et v\u00e9rifi\u00e9 chaque r\u00e9sultat de recherche manuellement sur sa pertinence. Nous avons ensuite indiqu\u00e9 le nombre de points chauds et des 601 articles de presse entre le 1er juin et le 31 ao\u00fbt 2013 (figure 1).<\/p>\n<p lang=\"fr-FR\">Il existe une correspondance remarquable. Partant d&rsquo;un niveau tr\u00e8s bas, les reportages m\u00e9diatiques se sont multipli\u00e9s juste apr\u00e8s les incendies, et puis ils ont persist\u00e9 pendant environ une semaine apr\u00e8s que le pic de feux en juin se soit calm\u00e9. Ensuite, fin ao\u00fbt, les feux sont revenus, tout comme les reportages m\u00e9diatiques \u2013 bri\u00e8vement.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"fr-FR\">L&rsquo;arriv\u00e9e et la disparition de l&rsquo;int\u00e9r\u00eat des m\u00e9dias grand public peuvent \u00eatre un probl\u00e8me d&rsquo;au moins deux fa\u00e7ons. Tout d&rsquo;abord, dans un monde de plus en plus connect\u00e9 en temps r\u00e9el, les d\u00e9cideurs sont pleinement conscients des crises-de-la-journ\u00e9e qui influencent l&rsquo;opinion publique, mais leurs engagements peuvent ne pas persister lorsque la situation imm\u00e9diate est termin\u00e9e et quand il devient possible de d\u00e9ployer des solutions \u00e0 long terme. D&rsquo;ici l\u00e0, d&rsquo;autres crises peuvent \u00e9galement \u00eatre apparues (dans les m\u00e9dias), n\u00e9cessitant leur pleine, quoique br\u00e8ve, attention.<\/p>\n<p>Deuxi\u00e8mement, parmi les catastrophes, il existe des tendances claires concernant lesquelles se propagent dans les m\u00e9dias grand public et deviennent par cons\u00e9quent des pr\u00e9occupations prioritaires dans le d\u00e9bat publique et mondial. Les priorit\u00e9s semblent \u00eatre<a href=\"http:\/\/www.odihpn.org\/humanitarian-exchange-magazine\/issue-44\/media-and-message-communicating-crises\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"> d\u00e9termin\u00e9es par les int\u00e9r\u00eats des m\u00e9dias eux-m\u00eames<\/a> et s&rsquo;appuient sur un sentiment de \u00abvaleur de la nouvelle\u00bb. Cette valeur est au maximum pour les catastrophes humaines et les d\u00e9sastres environnementaux \u2013 du moment qu&rsquo;ils sont tangibles, actuels et fournissent des images pour la vente &#8211; comme des images d&rsquo;enfants \u00e9touffant de la fum\u00e9e. Ajoutez \u00e0 cela une c\u00e9l\u00e9brit\u00e9 telle que <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2013\/sep\/11\/indonesia-harrison-ford-deportation-minister\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Harrison Ford<\/a>* et l&rsquo;int\u00e9r\u00eat augmente encore plus. Parfois, comme lors de la lecture de<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/09\/10\/science\/a-climate-alarm-too-muted-for-some.html?ref=science&amp;_r=1&amp;\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"> cet article du New York Times \u00e0 propos du prochain rapport du GIEC<\/a>*, on se demande si l&rsquo;objectif principal est d&rsquo;assurer une querelle politique continue ou de se concentrer sur les questions qui pr\u00e9occupent v\u00e9ritablement le monde.<\/p>\n<p>Les enjeux sur le long terme, qui changent lentement, avec des images moins spectaculaires, attirent moins l&rsquo;int\u00e9r\u00eat des m\u00e9dias et par cons\u00e9quent du grand public. Dans une perspective \u00e0 long terme, la fum\u00e9e n&rsquo;est probablement pas le probl\u00e8me le plus important concernant les feux actuels, au-del\u00e0 de la pr\u00e9occupation des citadins \u00e0 Singapour (dont le souci est bien r\u00e9el en termes de pertes financi\u00e8res et d&rsquo;impacts sur la sant\u00e9) et ailleurs. Les contributions au changement climatique et \u00e0 la perte des \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes que repr\u00e9sentent ces feux, pourraient finalement avoir des r\u00e9percussions bien plus importantes sur le bien-\u00eatre humain. Mais le CO2 n&rsquo;est pas visible, contrairement \u00e0 la fum\u00e9e, et ne nous \u00e9touffent pas. La destruction des \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes n&rsquo;est pas encore devenue un facteur important lorsque nous achetons de la nourriture dans les supermarch\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"fr-FR\">\u00c9quilibrer les objectifs \u00e0 long terme avec les priorit\u00e9s imm\u00e9diates n&rsquo;est certainement pas un sujet nouveau. Par exemple, notre \u00e9conomie dans son ensemble cherche constamment \u00e0 trouver cet \u00e9quilibre &#8211; exprim\u00e9 en taux d&rsquo;int\u00e9r\u00eat. Le nouveau monde connect\u00e9 nous apport constamment de nouvelles d&rsquo;information consultables du bout des doigts, ce qui signifie que le pr\u00e9sent appara\u00eet plus digne d&rsquo;int\u00e9r\u00eat que l&rsquo;avenir. Une fa\u00e7on d&rsquo;exprimer ceci est que le taux d&rsquo;int\u00e9r\u00eat est \u00e0 la hausse, de sorte qu&rsquo;il faut de plus en plus d&rsquo;efforts pour s&rsquo;engager avec succ\u00e8s dans notre avenir commun.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"fr-FR\">Le CIFOR est l&rsquo;une des nombreuses organisations qui s&rsquo;engagent \u00e0 trouver des pistes pour cet avenir commun. Un de nos d\u00e9fis est de communiquer nos r\u00e9sultats et de g\u00e9n\u00e9rer un impact sur le long terme. D&rsquo;une part, les m\u00e9dias grand public ne fournissent pas une plate-forme coh\u00e9rente pour cela. Under his leadership, CIFOR updated its strategy in 2016, emphasizing the role of forestry in achieving each of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Dr. Holmgren has a PhD in Forestry and 26 years of experience in international forestry and agriculture. Prior to CIFOR, Dr. Holmgren worked at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), where he led FAO\u2019s work on climate change and its contributions to the UNFCCC process. While at FAO he also coordinated the Global Forest Resources Assessment, played a leading role in establishing the UN-REDD program and led the development of the Climate Smart Agriculture concept. Dr. Holmgren is credited for leading the dialogue to enhance and broaden the role of forestry in the Global Development Agenda to address the major challenges of our time: poverty, food security, climate change and green economy.
