Muchos de quienes la acompa\u00f1an en esta visita al aguajal Las Brisas, ubicado en el kil\u00f3metro seis de la carretera Iquitos-Nauta, en la regi\u00f3n Loreto, Per\u00fa, conocen el concepto, pero es la primera vez que ven turba (y turberas) de cerca.<\/p>\n<p>En el grupo que acompa\u00f1a a Hergoualc\u2019h hay funcionarios peruanos del Ministerio del Ambiente (Minam), del Servicio Forestal Nacional y de Fauna Silvestre (Serfor), del <a href=\"http:\/\/iiap.org.pe\/web\/presentacion_iiap.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Instituto de Investigaciones de la Amazon\u00eda Peruana (IIAP)<\/a> y de organizaciones acad\u00e9micas trabajando en contabilidad y emisiones forestales de Gases de Efecto Invernadero (GEI). La visita a la zona es parte del primer d\u00eda de un taller de capacitaci\u00f3n en contabilidad de reservas de carbono y flujos de GEI en turberas, organizado por el equipo de cambio clim\u00e1tico de CIFOR-ICRAF, el IIAP, el Servicio Forestal de los Estados Unidos (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fs.usda.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">US Forest Service<\/a>), la Universidad de St Andrews del Reino Unido y <a href=\"https:\/\/www.silvacarbon.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">SilvaCarbon<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Entre 2014 y 2019, este fue el sitio de investigaci\u00f3n del Programa de Adaptaci\u00f3n y Mitigaci\u00f3n para la Sostenibilidad de los Humedales (<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.cifor.org\/swamp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">SWAMP<\/a>) y del Estudio Global Comparativo sobre REDD+ (<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.cifor.org\/gcs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">GCS<\/a>), que Hergoualc\u2019h coordinaba en Per\u00fa y en el que se med\u00edan las reservas de carbono, la respiraci\u00f3n total y heterotr\u00f3fica del suelo, la din\u00e1mica de las ra\u00edces finas, la ca\u00edda de hojarasca, y los flujos de metano y \u00f3xido nitroso; para evaluar el balance de carbono y de las emisiones de GEI provenientes de la turba. Los investigadores peruanos est\u00e1n recolectando desde 2016 informaci\u00f3n sobre el comportamiento de los GEI en el ecosistema de aguajal.<\/p>\n<p>Con el financiamiento del Servicio Forestal de los Estados Unidos se instal\u00f3 una Torre de Flujo de Emisiones, que cuenta con sensores que registran los flujos de GEI como el di\u00f3xido de carbono, metano y vapor de agua del ecosistema. Pero tambi\u00e9n se cuenta con sensores instalados en el suelo, los \u00e1rboles y las mismas palmeras, a fin de tener mayor detalle de los flujos de estos gases a nivel del subecosistema.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTodo esto ayuda a comprender el proceso de medici\u00f3n de los flujos de gases que salen desde el subsuelo y la superficie de los aguajales y son emanados hacia la atm\u00f3sfera, as\u00ed como los gases que ingresan al ecosistema\u201d, subray\u00f3 Lizardo Fach\u00edn del IIAP.<\/p>\n<div style=\"aspect-ratio:16\/9;min-height:unset;\" class=\"wp-block-cover wp-elements-c7274f9a76ff948295c72066c2502b23\">Explicaci\u00f3n del trabajo de monitoreo de GEI del IIAP. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>El investigador tambi\u00e9n indic\u00f3 que el proyecto est\u00e1 ejecutando una segunda etapa denominada \u201cProcesos biof\u00edsicos y mecanismos de retroalimentaci\u00f3n que controlan las contribuciones de metano en una turbera amaz\u00f3nica\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Los resultados servir\u00e1n para que los responsables de la toma de decisiones cuenten con datos que destaquen la importancia de los aguajales para la mitigaci\u00f3n del cambio clim\u00e1tico, su potencial en el marco de los compromisos clim\u00e1ticos, y promuevan normas y acciones a favor de la gesti\u00f3n sostenible y la conservaci\u00f3n de las turberas amaz\u00f3nicas de Per\u00fa.<\/p>\n<p>El taller y las visitas permitieron fomentar el desarrollo de capacidades sobre flujos GEI de oficiales trabajando en cambio clim\u00e1tico a nivel de pol\u00edticas nacionales, as\u00ed como conocer de cerca el potencial, estado y oportunidades de gesti\u00f3n de las turberas de aguajal de Per\u00fa.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-group
