Estos ecosistemas de humedal pueden almacenar hasta 10 veces m\u00e1s carbono sobre el suelo mineral que un bosque del mismo tama\u00f1o, y, por lo tanto, son cruciales para las estrategias de mitigaci\u00f3n del cambio clim\u00e1tico global. Pero hay m\u00e1s: las turberas proveen servicios ecosist\u00e9micos vitales como la regulaci\u00f3n h\u00eddrica, la provisi\u00f3n de agua dulce de muchas poblaciones, y garantizan la conservaci\u00f3n de biodiversidad \u00fanica al tiempo que sustentan medios de vida locales.<\/p>\n<p>Y aunque por mucho tiempo el potencial e importancia de las turberas pas\u00f3 desapercibido, este panorama ha empezado a cambiar.<\/p>\n<p>En este episodio de \u201cHablemos de \u00c1rboles\u201d, reunimos a tres expertos para conocer sobre las turberas de forma general, y nos concentramos en las turberas del Per\u00fa. Las cient\u00edficas Kristell Hergoualc&#8217;h del <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cifor.org\/es\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Centro para la Investigaci\u00f3n Forestal Internacional<\/a> (CIFOR) y Eur\u00eddice Honorio del <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gob.pe\/iiap\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Instituto de Investigaciones de las Amazon\u00eda Peruana<\/a> (IIAP), as\u00ed como el Ministro del Ambiente de Per\u00fa Gabriel Quijandr\u00eda, comparten con nosotros informaci\u00f3n de primera mano sobre el estado, potencial, desaf\u00edos y oportunidades, tanto biof\u00edsicas, normativas y a nivel de investigaci\u00f3n de estos ecosistemas tan importantes para las metas ambientales del Per\u00fa y el mundo.
