{"id":72119,"date":"2021-04-15T01:11:41","date_gmt":"2021-04-14T18:11:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.forestsnews.org\/?p=72119"},"modified":"2021-04-15T04:21:43","modified_gmt":"2021-04-14T21:21:43","slug":"los-bosques-intactos-podrian-dejar-de-existir-en-grandes-regiones-tropicales-humedas-para-2050","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.forestsnews.org\/es\/72119\/los-bosques-intactos-podrian-dejar-de-existir-en-grandes-regiones-tropicales-humedas-para-2050","title":{"rendered":"Los bosques intactos podr\u00edan dejar de existir en grandes regiones tropicales h\u00famedas para 2050"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A partir de datos satelitales, una nueva investigaci\u00f3n destaca que los bosques intactos podr\u00edan desaparecer por completo en las grandes regiones tropicales h\u00famedas para 2050 si las tasas actuales de perturbaci\u00f3n contin\u00faan.<\/p>\n<p>Los bosques juegan un papel clave en la estabilidad ecol\u00f3gica y ambiental, pues su capacidad de almacenamiento de carbono ofrece una soluci\u00f3n basada en la naturaleza para mitigar el cambio clim\u00e1tico al mantener bajo control la liberaci\u00f3n de gases de efecto invernadero que calientan el planeta.<\/p>\n<p>En un nuevo documento que analiza los patrones de deforestaci\u00f3n y degradaci\u00f3n forestal causados \u200b\u200bpor las actividades humanas durante los \u00faltimos 30 a\u00f1os, los cient\u00edficos estiman que casi 219 millones de hect\u00e1reas o el 17 % de los bosques tropicales h\u00famedos han desaparecido. Mientras que de los 1070 millones de hect\u00e1reas de bosques restantes, el 10 % est\u00e1 degradado. Esta \u00faltima cifra, destacan los autores del <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cifor.org\/knowledge\/publication\/7959\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">estudio<\/a> publicado en Science Advances, generalmente es un indicador de que el proceso de deforestaci\u00f3n de los bosques tropicales h\u00famedos seguir\u00e1.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSi se hubiesen tomado medidas para prevenir la degradaci\u00f3n, la tala de bosques \u2013que ocurre en promedio despu\u00e9s de 7.5 a\u00f1os\u2013 se habr\u00eda evitado en m\u00e1s del 45 % de los casos\u201d, dijo Christelle Vancutsem, especialista en teledetecci\u00f3n y autora principal del estudio, quien trabaj\u00f3 junto a un equipo de cient\u00edficos del <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/departments\/joint-research-centre_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Centro Com\u00fan de Investigaci\u00f3n de la Comisi\u00f3n Europea<\/a>, el Centro para la Investigaci\u00f3n Forestal Internacional (CIFOR), el <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cirad.fr\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Centro de Cooperaci\u00f3n Internacional en Investigaci\u00f3n Agr\u00edcola para el Desarrollo<\/a> (CIRAD, por sus siglas en franc\u00e9s) de Francia y el <a href=\"http:\/\/www3.inpe.br\/50anos\/english\/presentation.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Instituto Nacional de Investigaci\u00f3n Espacial<\/a> (INPE) de Brasil.<\/p>\n<p>Para llegar a los hallazgos del estudio, los investigadores mapearon los cambios en la cobertura de la tierra de 1990 a 2019, utilizando im\u00e1genes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usgs.gov\/core-science-systems\/nli\/landsat\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Landsat<\/a> para observar c\u00f3mo los paisajes forestales variaban y cambiaban con el tiempo, es decir, cu\u00e1ndo no sufrieron perturbaciones, cu\u00e1ndo fueron degradados, regenerados, deforestados, forestados o convertidos en plantaciones o cuerpos de agua. El color naranja representa la deforestaci\u00f3n a lo largo de la v\u00eda f\u00e9rrea y debido a la creaci\u00f3n de una presa.<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Reconociendo que ning\u00fan ecosistema puede considerarse verdaderamente intacto, los cient\u00edficos definieron la degradaci\u00f3n forestal como una alteraci\u00f3n en el dosel de la cubierta arb\u00f3rea visible desde el espacio durante un per\u00edodo de menos de 2.5 a\u00f1os, lo cual conduce a la p\u00e9rdida de biodiversidad o almacenamiento de carbono, o ambos.<\/p>\n<p>La investigaci\u00f3n tambi\u00e9n muestra que las tendencias en las tasas de deforestaci\u00f3n parecen estar ligadas a cambios en las pol\u00edticas territoriales nacionales, apunt\u00f3 Vancutsem. Por otro lado, las tasas de degradaci\u00f3n est\u00e1n estrechamente relacionadas con las condiciones clim\u00e1ticas y no se ven afectadas por las pol\u00edticas de conservaci\u00f3n de los bosques.<\/p>\n<p>La situaci\u00f3n parece estar aceler\u00e1ndose, se\u00f1al\u00f3. \u201cDurante cinco a\u00f1os, de 2015 a 2019, vimos un aumento significativo en la degradaci\u00f3n forestal: 2,6 millones de hect\u00e1reas adicionales en relaci\u00f3n con el per\u00edodo 2010-2014\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Esta tendencia se explica por condiciones clim\u00e1ticas puntuales, espec\u00edficamente sequ\u00edas e incendios asociados a los efectos de El Ni\u00f1o de 2015-2016. El 32 % de las \u00e1reas deforestadas en los bosques tropicales h\u00famedos se encuentran en Asia y Ocean\u00eda, el 47 % en Am\u00e9rica Latina y el 21 % en \u00c1frica.<\/p>\n<p>Los cient\u00edficos tambi\u00e9n documentaron la distribuci\u00f3n y la edad de los bosques secundarios j\u00f3venes \u2013definidos por el estudio como el rebrote de la cubierta arb\u00f3rea despu\u00e9s de una eliminaci\u00f3n total de  esta, la cual permaneci\u00f3 sin crecer durante al menos 2,5 a\u00f1os\u2013. La proporci\u00f3n de estos es del 46 % en Asia y Ocean\u00eda, 43 % en Am\u00e9rica Latina y 11 % en \u00c1frica.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPodemos confirmar que la mayor parte de la deforestaci\u00f3n causada por la expansi\u00f3n de la palma aceitera y el caucho, asignadas a las clases de productos b\u00e1sicos en nuestro estudio, se concentra en Asia\u201d, dijo Vancutsem. \u201cEsto equivale a m\u00e1s de 18 millones de hect\u00e1reas, lo que representa el 86 % de la conversi\u00f3n total del bosque h\u00famedo tropical en plantaciones, espec\u00edficamente m\u00e1s del 57 % en Indonesia y m\u00e1s
