{"id":66878,"date":"2020-08-18T09:27:32","date_gmt":"2020-08-18T02:27:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.forestsnews.org\/?p=66878"},"modified":"2020-08-18T09:27:32","modified_gmt":"2020-08-18T02:27:32","slug":"donde-hay-mas-palmeras-en-el-mundo-y-por-que-esto-es-importante-para-la-gestion-de-los-bosques-tropicales","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.forestsnews.org\/es\/66878\/donde-hay-mas-palmeras-en-el-mundo-y-por-que-esto-es-importante-para-la-gestion-de-los-bosques-tropicales","title":{"rendered":"D\u00f3nde hay m\u00e1s palmeras en el mundo y por qu\u00e9 esto es importante para la gesti\u00f3n de los bosques tropicales"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Las palmeras (o palmas) son cinco veces m\u00e1s numerosas en los bosques neotropicales -como la selva Amaz\u00f3nica- que, en los bosques tropicales de \u00c1frica y Asia, asegura un nuevo estudio liderado  por investigadores de la <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uu.se\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Universidad  Uppsala<\/a> de Suecia (UU) y la <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unicamp.br\/unicamp\/english\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Universidad de las Campinas<\/a> (Unicamp) de Brasil.<\/p>\n<p>Los resultados, ofrecen informaci\u00f3n sobre las caracter\u00edsticas \u00fanicas y la contribuci\u00f3n de los \u00e1rboles a los ecosistemas forestales tropicales.<\/p>\n<p>Adem\u00e1s, tambi\u00e9n destacan  la importancia de tomar en cuenta a las palmeras cuando se trata de estimar la captaci\u00f3n y el secuestro de carbono en los bosques tropicales, as\u00ed como al evaluar su resiliencia al cambio clim\u00e1tico.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPara lograr un mejor entendimiento de los bosques tropicales y reducir la incertidumbre sobre el balance del carbono en estos ecosistemas en el contexto  del cambio clim\u00e1tico, necesitamos informaci\u00f3n resumida para mostrar c\u00f3mo el n\u00famero de palmeras var\u00eda alrededor del mundo en comparaci\u00f3n con otras especies de \u00e1rboles\u201d, explica Bob Muscarella, profesor del <a href=\"https:\/\/katalog.uu.se\/organisation\/?orgId=X137:4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Departamento de Ecolog\u00eda y Gen\u00e9tica, Ecolog\u00eda de Plantas y Evoluci\u00f3n<\/a> de la UU.<\/p>\n<p>Los investigadores supervisaron una iniciativa que recolect\u00f3 informaci\u00f3n, y que involucr\u00f3 a m\u00e1s de 200 investigadores en 48 pa\u00edses, para analizar los n\u00fameros reales de palmeras en los bosques tropicales alrededor del mundo.<\/p>\n<p>M\u00e1s de la mitad de la biomasa total en la selva Amaz\u00f3nica est\u00e1 distribuida entre menos de 300 especies de \u00e1rboles, incluidas var\u00edas especies de palmeras.<\/p>\n<p>En todo el mundo existen m\u00e1s de 2500 especies de \u00e1rboles de palma, los cuales est\u00e1n m\u00e1s cercanamente relacionados con los pastos que con los \u00e1rboles caducifolios de los tr\u00f3picos, distintos en cuanto a anatom\u00eda y constituci\u00f3n fisiol\u00f3gica.<\/p>\n<p>Mientras que muchas palmeras fueron previamente conocidas por prosperar en tierras con un buen abastecimiento de agua del subsuelo, los investigadores descubrieron que las palmeras son m\u00e1s abundantes en \u00e1reas h\u00famedas, con suelos menos f\u00e9rtiles y aguas subterr\u00e1neas menos profundas.<\/p>\n<div class='short-link'>\n\t\t\t<a class='GTMshortLink' href='https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/full\/10.1111\/geb.13123' target='_blank'>\n\t\t\t\t<span class='short-link__box'><span>Accede al estudio:<\/span><\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<span class='short-link__desc'>The global abundance of tree palms<\/span>\n\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t<\/div>\n<p>\u201cLa importancia de los resultados de esta investigaci\u00f3n radica en que muestra que existen vastas diferencias en la estructura y composici\u00f3n de los bosques tropicales y por lo tanto no existe un plan global para su manejo sostenible\u201d, explic\u00f3 Terry Sunderland, investigador asociado s\u00e9nior del Centro para la Investigaci\u00f3n Forestal Internacional (CIFOR) y profesor en la <a href=\"https:\/\/forestry.ubc.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Facultad Forestal<\/a> de la <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ubc.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Universidad UBC<\/a> de Canad\u00e1.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSolo con un estudio comparativo como \u00e9ste podemos entender la historia evolutiva de los tr\u00f3picos y, en consecuencia, gestionar la variaci\u00f3n en la composici\u00f3n y las din\u00e1micas\u201d, dijo.<\/p>\n<p>Con financiamiento de la Agencia de los Estados Unidos para el Desarrollo Internacional (USAID, por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s), Sunderland apoy\u00f3 a un estudiante de postdoctorado para llevar a cabo un censo de parcelas en Camer\u00fan. La informaci\u00f3n contribuy\u00f3 al estudio de palmeras y al mandato del Estudio Comparativo Global de CIFOR.<\/p>\n<p>Con informaci\u00f3n de redes existentes de parcelas de bosques (incluyendo forestplots.net, PPBio, Rainfor, AfriTRON), los investigadores compilaron una enorme base de datos de m\u00e1s de 2500 parcelas muestra, para luego cuantificar los n\u00fameros de palmeras en relaci\u00f3n con otras especies de plantas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEste estudio tambi\u00e9n muestra que diferentes tipos de bosques responden de manera diferente a las perturbaciones, y que su potencial de almacenamiento de carbono es variable\u201d, explic\u00f3 Sunderland.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEl hecho de que, en este caso, los an\u00e1lisis fueron llevados a cabo espec\u00edficamente con palmas arb\u00f3reas muestra c\u00f3mo las palmeras de los tr\u00f3picos var\u00edan en los diferentes continentes. Particularmente, la cuenca Amaz\u00f3nica cuenta con una extensa diversidad y abundancia de palmas, mientras que \u00c1frica tiene muy pocas especies.
