Foto cortes\u00eda de Neil Palmer \/ CIAT.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>DURBAN, Sud\u00e1frica (6 de diciembre de 2011) _Al <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.worldbank.org\/climatechange\/saturday-durban-was-agriculture-day-and-focus-was-africa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">D\u00eda de la Agricultura<\/a> le sigue el <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forestsclimatechange.org\/events\/forest-day\/forest-day-5.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">D\u00eda del Bosque<\/a>, evento organizado para 1,200 cient\u00edficos, donantes, ONGs, dise\u00f1adores de pol\u00edticas, periodistas y negociadores del clima reunidos en Durban, y que tiene su propia y bien organizada log\u00edstica de sesiones plenarias y foros de discusi\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Mi tarea durante estos dos d\u00edas es la de actuar como un intermediario y ayudar a acabar con la mentalidad estrecha que puede afectar a las comunidades de expertos que trabajan en temas muy espec\u00edficos. Muchas personas parecen ya estar leyendo la misma hoja \u2013 existe un mayor reconocimiento de que el destino de los bosques y la agricultura est\u00e1n estrechamente ligados.<\/p>\n<p>La agricultura (de peque\u00f1a y gran escala) es una de las principales causas de la <a href=\"http:\/\/www.profor.info\/profor\/knowledge\/mobilizing-private-investment-trees-and-landscape-restoration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">deforestaci\u00f3n<\/a> y la degradaci\u00f3n de los bosques en muchas partes del mundo. Y, en el futuro, la creciente necesidad de alimentos, energ\u00eda e ingresos seguir\u00e1n ejerciendo una tremenda presi\u00f3n sobre la \u00abfrontera\u00bb del bosque.<\/p>\n<p>Expertos en temas de bosques y agricultura preocupados por el cambio clim\u00e1tico parecen estar llegando a soluciones simbi\u00f3ticas a nivel de paisaje \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/climatechange.worldbank.org\/content\/climate-smart-agriculture\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">programas clim\u00e1ticamente inteligentes<\/a> basados \u200b\u200ben un entendimiento m\u00e1s completo de los ciclos de carbono y agua que sustentan a la agricultura y a los bosques.<\/p>\n<p>El D\u00eda del Bosque, ahora en su quinto a\u00f1o, coincide siempre con las <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cop17-cmp7durban.com\/en\/events\/events.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">negociaciones de la CMNUCC<\/a>, y puede acreditarse el haber dado a conocer investigaci\u00f3n sobre emisiones de carbono y haber puesto a los bosques en la agenda de los negociaciones de cambio clim\u00e1tico.<\/p>\n<p>Sin embargo, los agricultores y los habitantes de los bosques est\u00e1n menos convencidos con las discusiones y las publicaciones que con resultados tangibles. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.profor.info\/profor\/notes\/trees-private-sector-fodder-trees-dairy-cows\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">T\u00e9cnicas<\/a> clim\u00e1ticamente inteligentes sencillas y comprobadas, tales como proteger y <a href=\"http:\/\/vimeo.com\/24579176\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">plantar \u00e1rboles<\/a>, y recolectar agua y abono, producen beneficios m\u00faltiples que incluyen aumento en la producci\u00f3n, suelos m\u00e1s f\u00e9rtiles, protecci\u00f3n de cuencas, protecci\u00f3n contra el viento, polinizaci\u00f3n y reducci\u00f3n de la erosi\u00f3n del suelo. Y s\u00ed, tal vez, incluso los pagos por carbono.<\/p>\n<p>Los agricultores no se oponen a pensar en las organizaciones no gubernamentales, los programas de desarrollo de negocios y los mercados de carbono como fuentes de financiamiento adicionales. Nosotros tampoco debemos alejarnos de las alianzas innovadoras que nos ofrece el financiamiento para el cambio clim\u00e1tico, que van de un proyecto de carbono en el suelo que trabaja para mejorar las pr\u00e1cticas agr\u00edcolas de peque\u00f1os agricultores en <a href=\"http:\/\/vimeo.com\/25088750\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Kenia<\/a>, proyectos de biog\u00e1s en <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.worldbank.org\/climatechange\/cow-dung-biogas-carbon-credits-nepal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Nepal<\/a>, o planes de \u201cpreparaci\u00f3n de REDD\u201d e inversiones forestales en un n\u00famero creciente de pa\u00edses con bosques tropicales.<\/p>\n<p>Ahora que todos coincidimos en un <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.worldbank.org\/climatechange\/infinite-win\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">enfoque integrado<\/a> para la silvicultura y la agricultura (gesti\u00f3n del paisaje), puede ser el momento de alentar un enfoque integrado de acci\u00f3n ante el cambio clim\u00e1tico: la adaptaci\u00f3n basada en la mitigaci\u00f3n es una opci\u00f3n que no dar\u00e1 espacio para el arrepentimiento.<\/p>\n<p>Cambiar paradigmas no es f\u00e1cil y requiere de un liderazgo visionario. Frances Seymour, Directora General de CIFOR, anunci\u00f3 que dejar\u00e1 el cargo en junio de 2012, despu\u00e9s de casi seis a\u00f1os en \u00e9l.
