La lideresa ind\u00edgena, oriunda de la comunidad Nossa Senhora do Perp\u00e9tuo Socorro, en la Amazon\u00eda brasile\u00f1a, cuenta que no pod\u00eda entender c\u00f3mo la historia de su lucha por el uso sostenible de los bosques hab\u00eda transcendido su comunidad y a\u00fan m\u00e1s, el pa\u00eds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEstaba en casa de mi nuera, en Porto de Moz (Brasil), y me llamaron desde la FAO de Brasilia para preguntarme si aceptaba el premio\u201d, record\u00f3 con una sonrisa y brillo en sus ojos. \u201cEstaba muy emocionada. No entend\u00eda c\u00f3mo se hab\u00edan enterado de mi historia\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Al siguiente d\u00eda fue a sacar su pasaporte para viajar fuera de Brasil por primera vez en su vida. Su destino era Alemania.<\/p>\n<p>En la tarde del 20 de diciembre de 2017, durante la celebraci\u00f3n del <a href=\"http:\/\/events.globallandscapesforum.org\/agenda\/bonn-2017\/day-2\/announcing-award-recipients\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Global Landscape Forum<\/a> en Bonn, Margarida fue llamada al podio para recibir el premio Wangari Maathai.<\/p>\n<p><strong>LEGADO INMORTAL<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=6vgJKOvEKE4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Wangari Maathai<\/a> fue una reconocida lideresa de Kenia cuya lucha por conservar los bosques y que el mundo reconozca su importancia para las poblaciones locales transcendi\u00f3 las fronteras de la geograf\u00eda y el tiempo. En 2004 fue galardonada con el Premio Nobel de la Paz y su figura contin\u00faa siendo s\u00edmbolo de inspiraci\u00f3n en todo el mundo.<\/p>\n<p>Desde 2012, la <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cpfweb.org\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Asociaci\u00f3n de Colaboraci\u00f3n en Materia de Bosques (CPF, por su sigla en ingl\u00e9s),<\/a> ofrece el galard\u00f3n que lleva su nombre a aquellas personas que han contribuido a la sensibilizaci\u00f3n de la sociedad sobre la importancia de la protecci\u00f3n de los bosques para las comunidades locales, los medios de vida rurales, las mujeres y el medio ambiente global.<\/p>\n<p>\u00abEl extraordinario compromiso de la Sra. Ribeiro da Silva con el manejo forestal comunitario la convierte en merecedora del Premio Wangari Maathai\u00bb, dijo Hiroto Mitsugi, subdirector general del Departamento Forestal de la FAO durante la entrega del galard\u00f3n. \u00abA trav\u00e9s de sus incansables esfuerzos por fortalecer las capacidades t\u00e9cnicas y organizativas de las comunidades locales, ha garantizado el manejo sostenible de los bosques por parte de las comunidades locales para su propio beneficio\u00bb, agreg\u00f3.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>CAMPEONA DEL BOSQUE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cTengo una misi\u00f3n especial esta tarde, quiero honrar ante ustedes a una mujer de Brasil, una luchadora por la selva amaz\u00f3nica. Ella se llama Margarida\u201c, anunci\u00f3 sobre el p\u00f3dium Marcos Terena, coordinador del Foro Internacional de Ind\u00edgenas sobre Biodiversidad, ante una audiencia de m\u00e1s de 800 personas, entre cient\u00edficos, pol\u00edticos, representantes de los pueblos ind\u00edgenas y estudiantes.<\/p>\n<p>Aquella tarde del 20 de diciembre, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ViJiYwAjHF0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Margarida se dirigi\u00f3 al p\u00f3dium con una leve sonrisa<\/a>. \u201cNo pod\u00eda creer lo que estaba pasando\u201d, cont\u00f3 durante una entrevista despu\u00e9s de la conmemoraci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Margarida vive en la comunidad Nossa Senhora do Perp\u00e9tuo Socorro. Creci\u00f3 rodeada de bosques, r\u00edos y cascadas. Desde peque\u00f1a, su madre sembr\u00f3 en ella el sentido de urgencia por defender los derechos de la naturaleza y de las comunidades. Esta pasi\u00f3n la ha llevado a luchar para proteger su tierra y a las personas que viven en ella.<\/p>\n<p>Durante a\u00f1os, una extensi\u00f3n de bosque del tama\u00f1o de L\u00edbano (1 200 000 Ha), estuvo amenazada por la deforestaci\u00f3n. Dentro de esta \u00e1rea se encuentran 110 comunidades, entre ellas la de Margarida. Hace m\u00e1s de diez a\u00f1os la tierra estaba en manos del gobierno y las comunidades no ten\u00edan derechos sobre ellas. \u201cEra un conflicto por la madera. Los madereros entraban a las comunidades y convert\u00edan los bosques en pastizales. Se estaba perdiendo mucho bosque. No s\u00e9 cu\u00e1nto, pero mucho\u201d, recuerda la ganadora del premio Wangari Maathai.<\/p>\n<p>La lucha de su comunidad por defender los derechos de la tierra y la protecci\u00f3n de r\u00edos y bosques empez\u00f3 en 1998 con la creaci\u00f3n de la Asociaci\u00f3n Comunitaria del Movimiento Sustentable del R\u00edo Ariumum.<\/p>\n<p>Uno de los momentos decisivos en su lucha fue cuando utilizaron botes para bloquear los r\u00edos por donde pasaban los madereros ilegales. Despu\u00e9s de este evento, en diciembre del 2004, el gobierno de Brasil declar\u00f3 el mill\u00f3n y doscientas mil hect\u00e1reas como una reserva llamada Verde para Siempre.<\/p>\n<p>En el 2006 Margarida viaj\u00f3 a Brasilia para hablar con representantes de la Agencia Federal para encontrar una manera en la que las comunidades puedan aprovechar la madera sin afectar al bosque. Logr\u00f3 que se aprobara un plan de manejo forestal que permiti\u00f3 a los comuneros comercializar la madera de la reserva de forma sostenible. Fue as\u00ed que la reserva Verde para Siempre se convirti\u00f3 en la primera \u00e1rea protegida en la que es permitido realizar actividades extractivas, afectando m\u00ednimamente el ecosistema.<\/p>\n<p>El plan de manejo forestal consiste en talar los \u00e1rboles m\u00e1s grandes y viejos, de especies que no se encuentren en peligro. Adem\u00e1s, est\u00e1 prohibido cortar los semilleros (los \u00e1rboles matriz, los que llevan las semillas). Esta experiencia sirvi\u00f3 como base para la creaci\u00f3n de la Instrucci\u00f3n Normativa N\u00b0 16 en 2011 de ICMBIO, que regula el manejo forestal comunitario para la conservaci\u00f3n de los bosques.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNuestro trabajo tambi\u00e9n sirvi\u00f3 para apoyar a j\u00f3venes l\u00edderes que participaron en el \u00abFormar Florestal\u00bb, un curso promovido por el Instituto Internacional de Educaci\u00f3n de Brasil (IEB), que permite a los l\u00edderes comunitarios reforzar la importancia del bosque para las poblaciones amaz\u00f3nicas que residen en \u00e1reas con una fuerte presi\u00f3n sobre los recursos naturales y las disputas territoriales\u201d, dijo Margarida en su discurso al recibir el premio.<\/p>\n<p>Actualmente, forma parte del Observatorio de Manejo Forestal Comunitario, un grupo de 14 organizaciones comunitarias que representan a 2500 familias de 11 territorios de Par\u00e1.
