Ser\u00e1 inevitable que los debates se desv\u00eden en torno a la inversi\u00f3n de los escasos fondos p\u00fablicos en m\u00e1s trabajos acad\u00e9micos: \u00bfPuede la investigaci\u00f3n ser, en verdad, un camino eficaz para generar beneficios en condiciones reales? \u00bfNo hay formas m\u00e1s valiosas de lograr objetivos pol\u00edticos?<\/p>\n<p>En momentos como este, es importante defender la ciencia y la investigaci\u00f3n, y los importantes impactos que pueden, y deben, tener en el corto y largo plazo. Hay demasiadas cosas en juego para el oportunismo pol\u00edtico contempor\u00e1neo. En este contexto, es un placer brindarle una actualizaci\u00f3n de la investigaci\u00f3n realizada por CIFOR y sus m\u00faltiples socios.<\/p>\n<p>El Programa de Investigaci\u00f3n del CGIAR sobre <a href=\"http:\/\/foreststreesagroforestry.org\/landscapes-livelihoods-governance-cgiar-research-program-on-forests-trees-and-agroforestry-annual-report-2015\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Bosques, \u00c1rboles y Agroforester\u00eda <\/a>(FTA) es el programa internacional de investigaci\u00f3n m\u00e1s ambicioso del mundo en su campo. <a href=\"http:\/\/foreststreesagroforestry.org\/landscapes-livelihoods-governance-cgiar-research-program-on-forests-trees-and-agroforestry-annual-report-2015\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">En 2015, m\u00e1s de 200 investigadores del FTA produjeron m\u00e1s de 600 publicaciones en el marco del programa<\/a>, de las cuales el 80 % son de acceso abierto. Se capacitaron m\u00e1s de 50.000 personas, y se alcanzaron grandes audiencias por medio de los eventos, los sitios web y las redes sociales del programa. Desde 2011, el FTA est\u00e1 ejecutando investigaciones y haciendo una diferencia en los paisajes, los medios de vida y la gobernanza en todas las regiones.<\/p>\n<p>El programa trabaja con una amplia variedad de sistemas basados en los \u00e1rboles y los paisajes a lo largo de los tr\u00f3picos, desde la agroforester\u00eda en peque\u00f1a escala hasta la protecci\u00f3n y el uso sostenible de los bosques tropicales remanentes, por ejemplo:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Transferencia de la gobernanza forestal en Kenia;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/foreststreesagroforestry.org\/multiple-ways-for-congo-basin-forests-to-flourish\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Conciliaci\u00f3n de los m\u00faltiples usos de los bosques en la cuenca del Congo<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>Forester\u00eda y agroforester\u00eda sostenible en Sulawesi, Indonesia;<\/li>\n<li>Datos confiables para hacer frente al cambio clim\u00e1tico;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/foreststreesagroforestry.org\/what-will-it-take-to-make-sustainable-palm-oil-the-norm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Cadenas de valor sostenibles de aceite de palma<\/a>; e<\/li>\n<li>Integraci\u00f3n de los aspectos de g\u00e9nero en todas las investigaciones.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Estas son solo algunas de las \u00e1reas de trabajo del FTA, en las que la investigaci\u00f3n tiene un impacto en las vidas de los m\u00e1s vulnerables y desfavorecidos.<\/p>\n<p>Tenemos la obligaci\u00f3n de evaluar el retorno de la inversi\u00f3n p\u00fablica en nuestro programa, que se financia principalmente con presupuestos para el desarrollo internacional. Algunos de los impactos previstos en condiciones reales del FTA hasta el momento son los siguientes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Se ha evitado la deforestaci\u00f3n de alrededor de 1,2 millones de hect\u00e1reas, y se podr\u00eda prevenir la degradaci\u00f3n de 1 mill\u00f3n de hect\u00e1reas;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/foreststreesagroforestry.org\/infographic-cifor-and-cirad-making-a-difference\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">M\u00e1s de 20 millones de hect\u00e1reas<\/a> de bosques en \u00c1frica y Am\u00e9rica Latina cuentan con un mejor manejo;<\/li>\n<li>La definici\u00f3n legal de la agroforester\u00eda en Per\u00fa se ha modificado, con efectos positivos en 2 millones de personas y 4,5 millones de hect\u00e1reas de la Amazonia peruana; y<\/li>\n<li>En el Sahel, el rendimiento de los cultivos alimentarios de los \u00e1rboles presentes en las granjas ha aumentado en un 15-30\u00a0%, y los ingresos de los agricultores se han elevado en \u00a0200 d\u00f3lares por a\u00f1o<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Estos logros no habr\u00edan sido posibles sin una s\u00f3lida asociaci\u00f3n entre las principales organizaciones de investigaci\u00f3n forestal.<\/p>\n<p>Y algo muy importante: <a href=\"http:\/\/foreststreesagroforestry.org\/landscapes-livelihoods-governance-cgiar-research-program-on-forests-trees-and-agroforestry-annual-report-2015\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">muchos donantes generosos apoyan nuestra labor<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bfY ahora qu\u00e9 sigue?<\/p>\n<p>Nos estamos preparando para la <a href=\"http:\/\/foreststreesagroforestry.org\/forests-trees-and-agroforestry-landscapes-livelihoods-and-governance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Etapa 2 del FTA<\/a> que se llevar\u00e1 a cabo durante el per\u00edodo 2017-2022. El  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cgiar.org\/about-us\/our-governance\/system-council\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Comit\u00e9 del Sistema del CGIAR<\/a> aprob\u00f3 los pr\u00f3ximos seis a\u00f1os del FTA como parte de un <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cgiar.org\/about-us\/our-programs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">conjunto<\/a> de programas del CGIAR fundamentales para la seguridad alimentaria, el manejo de los recursos naturales y el desarrollo sostenible. Esto significa que socios y donantes est\u00e1n seguros de que el FTA continuar\u00e1 generando resultados de gran relevancia. Nuestro presupuesto es de alrededor de 80 millones de d\u00f3lares por a\u00f1o, a fin de garantizar que el FTA logre un mayor impacto en los medios de vida y los paisajes en todo el mundo.<\/p>\n<div class='short-quote'>\n\t\t\t<blockquote>\n\t\t\t\t<p><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<footer>\n\t\t\t\t\t<cite title='Source Title'><\/cite>\n\t\t\t\t<\/footer>\n\t\t\t<\/blockquote>\n\t\t<\/div>\n<p>A partir de 2017, el FTA tendr\u00e1 cinco proyectos emblem\u00e1ticos:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Recursos gen\u00e9ticos de los \u00e1rboles<\/strong> para subsanar los d\u00e9ficits de producci\u00f3n y promover la resiliencia;<\/li>\n<li>Mejora de la contribuci\u00f3n de los \u00e1rboles y los bosques a<strong> los medios de vida de los peque\u00f1os productores;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Cadenas de valor e inversiones<\/strong> mundiales sostenibles para apoyar la conservaci\u00f3n forestal y el desarrollo equitativo;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Din\u00e1micas de los paisajes<\/strong>, productividad y resiliencia; y<\/li>\n<li><strong>Oportunidades de adaptaci\u00f3n y mitigaci\u00f3n del cambio clim\u00e1tico<\/strong> en los bosques, los \u00e1rboles y la agroforester\u00eda.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>El programa se rige por tres hip\u00f3tesis generales:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hip\u00f3tesis de gobernanza<\/strong>: Las instituciones y los acuerdos de gobernanza en los planos p\u00fablico y privado deben transformarse y ajustarse a fin de crear el entorno necesario en el que los bosques, los \u00e1rboles y los sistemas agroforestales puedan contribuir plenamente al logro de los objetivos de desarrollo sostenible (ODS).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hip\u00f3tesis de medios de vida<\/strong>: Existen posibilidades de realizar inversiones para lograr importantes aumentos en los ingresos, la seguridad alimentaria y nutricional, y la resiliencia frente al cambio clim\u00e1tico para al menos 100 millones de personas. Esto comprende un acceso m\u00e1s inclusivo y equitativo en materia de g\u00e9nero, as\u00ed como una mejora en el manejo y el aprovechamiento de los bosques, los \u00e1rboles y los sistemas agroforestales.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hip\u00f3tesis de los <em>Trade-offs<\/em><\/strong>: A fin de maximizar los beneficios de los diversos actores en distintas escalas, desde la granja hasta la global, es necesario entender y sopesar de forma activa los <em>Trade-offs<\/em> (ganancias y p\u00e9rdidas) entre la producci\u00f3n de alimentos, la fibra, la energ\u00eda, el agua y otros servicios de los ecosistemas, la regulaci\u00f3n del clima y el mantenimiento de la biodiversidad de los bosques y los \u00e1rboles en los paisajes.<\/p>\n<p>As\u00ed nos estamos embarcando en una emocionante nueva etapa del FTA.<\/p>\n<p>Quisiera aprovechar esta oportunidad para presentar a nuestro <a href=\"\/\/www.cifor.org\/press-releases\/dr-vincent-gitz-appointed-director-cgiar-research-program-forests-trees-agroforestry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">nuevo director, el Dr. Vincent Gitz<\/a><u>,<\/u> que se unir\u00e1 al FTA y a CIFOR en noviembre de 2016. Vincent cuenta con una s\u00f3lida experiencia internacional en forester\u00eda, agricultura, uso de la tierra y seguridad alimentaria, incluida su labor en el Comit\u00e9 de Seguridad Alimentaria Mundial, donde coordin\u00f3 el <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fao.org\/cfs\/cfs-hlpe\/es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Grupo de alto nivel de expertos en seguridad alimentaria y nutrici\u00f3n<\/a>, una experiencia de gran relevancia para asumir la compleja tarea de coordinar el FTA. Tomar\u00e1 el lugar del <a href=\"\/\/www.cifor.org\/scientific-staff-detail\/984\/robert-nasi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Dr. Roberto Nasi<\/a><u>,<\/u> quien  dirigi\u00f3 el programa desde sus inicios y ahora liderar\u00e1 toda la investigaci\u00f3n de CIFOR.<\/p>\n<p>El Programa sobre Bosques, \u00c1rboles y Agroforester\u00eda es posible gracias a un gran equipo de investigadores y profesionales, as\u00ed como muchos socios financiadores que nos conf\u00edan sus recursos.
