Dentro de esta transici\u00f3n, la madera emerge como un recurso fundamental: renovable, vers\u00e1til, capaz de almacenar carbono y de transformar sectores que van desde la construcci\u00f3n hasta los textiles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-el-material-de-construccion-perfecto-de-la-naturaleza\"><strong><strong>El material de construcci\u00f3n perfecto de la naturaleza<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Desde nuestra perspectiva, la madera ya no es solo un recurso maderero: es un material moderno que impulsa la innovaci\u00f3n en m\u00faltiples industrias. En la construcci\u00f3n, los productos de madera estructural, como la madera maciza y la madera laminada cruzada, ofrecen alternativas de bajas emisiones frente al acero y el cemento. Estas alternativas no solo reducen significativamente las emisiones, sino que tambi\u00e9n mejoran la eficiencia t\u00e9rmica. De manera similar, el mercado de energ\u00eda a partir de biomasa le\u00f1osa podr\u00eda crecer de 55 300 millones a casi 99 000 millones de d\u00f3lares. Estos no son cambios menores. Se\u00f1alan una reconfiguraci\u00f3n fundamental de la econom\u00eda de materiales, a medida que las industrias reconocen cada vez m\u00e1s la versatilidad y los beneficios ambientales de la madera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">El argumento clim\u00e1tico es igual de contundente. Usar una tonelada de madera en construcci\u00f3n puede evitar alrededor de 2.2 toneladas de emisiones de CO\u2082 en comparaci\u00f3n con el cemento Portland. La madera laminada cruzada emite solo 100 kg de CO\u2082 por metro c\u00fabico, mientras que el acero y el cemento emiten 2800 kg y 410 kg, respectivamente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-la-escala-de-la-demanda-futura\"><strong><strong>La escala de la demanda futura<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pero con la oportunidad llega la urgencia. Si la madera va a sostener la transici\u00f3n hacia la bioeconom\u00eda, debemos preguntarnos: \u00bfde d\u00f3nde provendr\u00e1 toda esta madera?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En 2020, el consumo global de madera se situ\u00f3 en alrededor de 4200 millones de metros c\u00fabicos, dividido entre usos industriales y bioenerg\u00eda. El norte global consume significativamente m\u00e1s madera industrial per c\u00e1pita que el sur global, mientras que este \u00faltimo depende en gran medida de la madera para energ\u00eda dom\u00e9stica, a menudo en sistemas de baja eficiencia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">El norte global utiliza principalmente madera industrial para aserr\u00edo, paneles y papel. Sin embargo, al sumar la expansi\u00f3n proyectada de la bioeconom\u00eda, esto genera una presi\u00f3n significativa sobre los sistemas de suministro. Se estima que se necesitar\u00e1 una demanda adicional de entre 1500 y 2500 millones de metros c\u00fabicos por a\u00f1o hacia 2050, impulsada en gran medida por la creciente demanda de materiales de construcci\u00f3n, bioenerg\u00eda, bioproductos qu\u00edmicos y textiles. En conjunto, la demanda total \u2014considerando el escenario de continuidad m\u00e1s el crecimiento de la bioeconom\u00eda\u2014 podr\u00eda superar los 7000 millones de metros c\u00fabicos a mediados de siglo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Satisfacer esta creciente demanda requerir\u00e1 un enfoque multifac\u00e9tico, que vaya m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de los bosques actualmente destinados a la producci\u00f3n maderera y aproveche un abanico m\u00e1s amplio de opciones sostenibles. Entre las alternativas se incluyen mejorar los rendimientos de forma sostenible en los bosques de producci\u00f3n existentes, expandir las plantaciones forestales (posiblemente entre 120 y 150 millones de hect\u00e1reas adicionales), aprovechar el potencial de los sistemas agroforestales, aumentar la eficiencia \u2014especialmente en el uso de bioenerg\u00eda\u2014 y restaurar tierras degradadas para la producci\u00f3n de madera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sin embargo, cada una de estas opciones conlleva desaf\u00edos. La competencia por la tierra, especialmente con la producci\u00f3n de alimentos, la conservaci\u00f3n de la biodiversidad, la gesti\u00f3n de recursos h\u00eddricos y, de manera cr\u00edtica, los derechos territoriales de los Pueblos Ind\u00edgenas y las comunidades locales, requiere una atenci\u00f3n cuidadosa. Esto implica esquemas de certificaci\u00f3n obligatorios y un monitoreo forestal reforzado, detener la deforestaci\u00f3n y proteger los bosques primarios, integrar el carbono forestal en mecanismos de fijaci\u00f3n de precios, fortalecer la gobernanza y armonizar est\u00e1ndares de sostenibilidad a nivel internacional, garantizar el reconocimiento legal de los derechos de las comunidades y una distribuci\u00f3n justa de beneficios, e invertir en eficiencia y reducci\u00f3n de desperdicios a lo largo de las cadenas de valor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La transici\u00f3n hacia la bioeconom\u00eda ofrece enormes oportunidades, con la madera como piedra angular. Sin embargo, tenemos una profunda responsabilidad de gestionar esta transici\u00f3n con sabidur\u00eda. Necesitamos m\u00e1s bosques y m\u00e1s \u00e1rboles, gestionados de manera sostenible y equitativa.
